In the film, Alfred ‘Boogie’ Chin is a basketball phenom who lives in Queens, New York. He wants to play for NBA and is determined to do it. But his parents are pressurizing him to concentrate on his studies and get a scholarship to admit into an elite college. His parents often fight with each other. His father has just got out of jail and his mother is very strict about discipline in life. Boogie has to beat the Monk, a black player in Brooklyn to make his parents feel proud.
