In the opening scene of the first episode of 3 Body Problem set in 1966 at Tsinghua University in Beijing, a man is forced to kneel down and confess to being a counterrevolutionary. The crowd demands his execution. Meanwhile Ye Zhetai is brought forward as his daughter watches from the audience. Ye is questioned about his profession as a physics professor. A young girl urges them to bring his wife on stage because she knows the truth. When Ye’s wife joins him she declares her support for the people. It is pointed out that Ye had taught the counterrevolutionary Big Bang theory. His wife argues that this theory allows for the existence of God.
