In the opening sequence “Wonka” instantly brings to mind the Golden Ticket while acknowledging the original author. It then leads us through a pink mist to a small ship where our Willy Wonka sings “It’s time to bid the seven seas farewell” up on the mast. The city that I have spent the last seven years hoping for is lurking just beyond the horizon. He is dressed in beige pants with white stripes and a brown vest over a white long sleeve shirt when we first meet him. Soon enough, the top hat and purple overcoat arrive, but they’re tattered, and he tells us his boots are leaking. His chocolate addiction has consumed all of his money.
